You may just be an Intracoastal Aunt if the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic isn't quite for you.
When the Coastal Grandmother aesthetic first came on the scene, I somewhat identified with it, but several key pieces were off.
That led to my idea for the Intracoastal Auntโthe more approachable, colorful (both style and language), modern, coastal woman.
Who Is an Intracoastal Aunt?
An Intracoastal Aunt gives has a classic style with a splash of color. Her wardrobe is highly curated but still appears effortless.
Her home is an Intracoastal mid-century modern feel with a touch of vintage rattan.
The Intracoastal Aunt prefers her margarita on the rocks with a sugared rim, though her language is occasionally salty.
Sheโs more of a sunset on the beach kind of gal, and an on-time arrival is appreciated because the Intracoastal Aunt is rarely ready early.
The Intracoastal Aunt has a few inconspicuous tattoos, and always opts for bright red nails instead of neutrals.
Low-stress hors dโoeuvres and bottles of wine for a small group is always her preferred way to entertain.
And the Intracoastal Aunt only goes to the weekly farmers market for fresh flowers ๐ธ
Infusing The Intracoastal Aunt Aesthetic Into Your Day
When it comes to style, add splashes of color to your outfit. This could be a bright head band or necklace with a neutral outfit. You could also go full color with a dress from Farm Rio or Hunter Bell NYC.
Avoid that post-margarita puffiness by asking for sugar on your rim instead of salt, and when the sassiness starts flowingโembrace it. Intracoastal Aunts know when it’s OK to let loose a bit.
The Intracoastal Aunt isn’t one for sunrise at the beachโshe’ll never get there on time. Instead, pack up a summer quilt, a light snack and some wine, and head to the beach for sunset with a beach read. Stay long enough for moonrise for a real treat.
Coastal Grandmothers think that arriving 15 minutes before the scheduled time means they are on time, and anyone who shows up on time is late. Well, the Intracoastal Aunt knows that on time is good enough, so don’t stress yourself out by trying to be ready early.
When it comes to entertaining, aim for a casual backyard setting with some light bites and a few bottles of wine with your closest friends. This takes the pressure off entertainingโand reduces the dirty dishes.
Lastly, pop over to your local farmers market to simply pick up a fresh bouquet of flowers. We all know that lettuce and other veggies will get ignored as soon as it goes in the fridge anyway!
