Tropical Storm Alex occupied part of our weekend, but once the sunny skies came back we drove down to Islamorada for a quick little getaway.
I’ve always loved the beautiful weather that immediately follows a tropical storm, and that’s exactly what we got this weekend.
Friday
We devoted Friday morning to prepping the backyard and pool for impending Tropical Storm Alex. Tray let a good amount of water out of the pool, so it wouldn’t overflow with the massive rain amounts we were expecting. Then, we moved furniture, furniture cushions, and pool floats to the garage, so they couldn’t get tossed around in the wind.
We both had full work days, but were able to get out late in the afternoon for some cuban coffee from Columbian Coffee House. We sat there for a bit and went over our shared calendar to make sure we both had everything on there for the month of June.
Next, we walked over to The Office for an early dinner. Sadly, neither one of us really enjoyed our dinner that much. I used to love dinner there, but it just wasn’t as good as I remembered.
By the time we finished dinner, the rain was pouring down. But we had our rain jackets and were fully prepared, so we weren’t soaked to the core when we got back to the car.
Friday night, I started reading The Last Summer at the Golden Hotel, and we just had a quiet, rainy night in.
Saturday
I had a nail appointment Saturday morning, then I stopped into Trader Joe’s to pick up some fresh flowers and a few other items for the week.
We had a late lunch at J. Alexander’s and then we saw Top Gun: Maverick. Oh my gosh, ya’ll! The movie was so good! Both Tray and I laughed. I teared up a few times. And we both agreed it was such a fun movie and had to be seen in theaters. And honestly, I would see it again!
I stayed up way too late (2 a.m.) finishing The Last Summer at the Golden Hotel, but it was so worth it!
Sunday
We woke up to blue skies and amazing weather on Sunday morning, so we left around 8 a.m. for a quick getaway to the Cheeca Lodge in Islamorada. The beachfront bungalow we stayed in was so comfortable and gave us the best view of the water.
When we got to town, we first had breakfast at the Midway Cafe (one of our favorite spots) and then we spent the entire rest of the day by the pool. Around 8:45 p.m. we went over to Lorelei Restaurant for a light dinner. The ahi tuna appetizer is a must! Tray also had the seafood chowder. He loves it because the chowder is broth-based. I ordered the smoked fish dip, and we finished up our light bites with key lime coladas (an absolute must!).
We both needed that quick overnight getaway. It’s the first getaway we’ve done since we moved, and it was so nice to be away from the house and the boxes we’re waiting to unpack and the kitchen we’re waiting to renovate.
Now, let’s get into my four favorite items this week!
Ruffle Sleeve Swimsuit: I ordered this suit in a Rifle & Paper Co. print last summer and loved it. So, I added the black suit to my collection this year. I just wore it in The Keys, and never felt uncomfortable wearing it in front of all those people at the pool. I also didn’t have to readjust the bathing suit several times throughout the day like I saw other women having to do with their suits.
The Last Weekend at the Golden Hotel: I could not put this book down. I essentially read the entire book in a day. If you love Dirty Dancing or The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, you’re going to love this book.
Mini Belt Bag: I finally broke down a purchased a belt bag. I love the neon accent on the bag I got, too!
Set of 4 Turkish Towels: I found these Serena and Lilly dupe beach towels, and they are so nice! It’s a set of four towels, so I feel like the price is a great deal. I’ve washed and dried these several times already now, and they are so soft. These are also a great size for beach towels. I’m going to order the coral color next!
